Opal Thompson

	Mrs. Opal Thompson, formerly of Ashley, departed this life at Pinckneyville Health Care Center on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 1:35 p.m.  She was 83.
	Opal was born in Junction on November 25, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Morris) Parker.  She was united in marriage to John W. Thompson at Nashville on February 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1992.
	Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and a resident of Ashley.  She was a member of the Ashley Baptist Church for 65 years and was a former member of the Ashley Women's Club.
	Left to mourn her passing are two sons, Lawrence Thompson and wife Nancy of Pinckneyville and Thomas Thompson and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Ruby Kane of Mt. Vernon, Norma Stonecipher of Nashville and Loretta Braden of Nason; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Alvin, Johnny and Charles Parker and a sister, Dorothy Barnett.
	Funeral services were held at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley on Friday, September 27 at 11 a.m. with Reverend A.B. Plunkett officiating.  Interment was at the Ashley City Cemetery.
	Friends called at the Campagna Funeral Home of Ashley on Thursday, September 26 from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. until the service hour.
	Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
